Standard Operating Procedures of the AOTA Representative Assembly

I.            NAME.  Representative Assembly

II.          AUTHORITY.  The authority of the Assembly is granted and
                        determined by the Association Bylaws (Art. VII).

III.        FUNCTIONS

A.                Shall serve as the legislative body directly responsible for the policies affecting the direction of the profession. 

B.                 Shall formulate and approve Association policies and adopt procedures by vote of the Assembly on but not limited to: 1. Internal Association affairs; 2. External Association affairs; 3. Budget/finance; 4. Positions statements; and 5. Membership rights, responsibilities and fees.

C.                 Shall approve all Bylaws amendments.

   
D.          Shall approve all Bylaws revisions for submission for vote to members at the annual     business meeting.

 E.          Shall approve the emblem representing the profession of occupational therapy.

 F.          May charge RA officials, RA bodies, officers of the Association, and Board of Directors - to carry out specific tasks.

 G.          May establish and charge an ad hoc committee to carry out a task, except as otherwise specified in the Bylaws as a function of a standing body.

H.          May operate as a committee of the whole or organize into task groups which meet formally to expedite business.

I.           Shall elect Assembly Officials and Standing Committee Chairpersons.

Representative Assembly Job Description

REPRESENTATIVE AND ALTERNATE REPRESENTATIVE

 

I.          NAME.  The Representative and Alternate Representative

 

II.         AUTHORITY.  The authority of the Representative and the Alternate Representative is granted and determined by the Association Bylaws (Art. VII). 

 

III.       FUNCTIONS (The Representative and Alternate Representative shall work collaboratively to    fulfill the following functions.)

 

A.        Shall communicate with Association members within their designated election area information related to Assembly business and Association issues.

 

B.        Shall participate in all meetings and other forums for communication
                        of the Assembly.

 

C.        Shall assist constituents to increase their effectiveness in influencing policy and procedures by supporting their work in writing resolutions or motions, encouraging voting and participation in Association activities.

 

D.        Shall communicate with constituents before each scheduled Assembly meeting for their input regarding business to be considered.

 

E.         Shall communicate concerns and positions of constituents to the Assembly and other appropriate Association bodies.

 

F.         Shall organize constituency feedback in written form and distribute it to the appropriate group of the Assembly for consideration in their deliberations.

 

G.        Shall serve on task groups during the Assembly to discuss referred action items and to make recommendations to the Assembly.

 

H.        May bring new issues relating to policy to the attention of the Assembly.

 

I.          Shall report within two months to constituents following each Assembly meeting regarding business transacted.

 

J.         Shall receive, disseminate, and explain information regarding business of the Assembly to constituents.

 

K.        Shall communicate to constituents each year the deadlines for motions, resolutions, reports, and nominations for awards and elections.

 

L.         Shall encourage Association membership.

 

M.        Shall work collaboratively with the election area associations and the Association to ensure that the election of Representative and Alternate Representatives within the election area is conducted in a timely and efficient manner.

 

N.        Shall provide Representative and Alternate Representative elected to succeed them with an orientation to position responsibilities and materials and information relating to Assembly business.

 

O.        Shall prepare reports and records in a timely manner required
            by the Speaker.

 

P.        Shall provide mentoring to new representatives as assigned.
