MiOTA 2009 Fall Conference Presentation Abstracts

Presentation # 11

Title:

Vision Rehabilitation- The Missing Link

Presenter(s):

Sharon R L Holt, MHS, OTR, CBIS;Dr. Danna Haba O.D., FCOVD

Description of the Presentation:

Brain Injury often results in deficits that are more overt to the individual survivor, their family, and the treatment team – such as issues related to movement and coordination, and speech and language.  Vision deficits are much more covert, not as easily observable, yet have an impact on every area of the individual’s functional performance.  This session will provide this “missing link” in the function of the visual system, how this function is interrupted by brain injury, and demonstration of a team approach to visual rehabilitation with the consumer – by behavioral optometry, occupational therapy, and intervention within the home and clinic.
