MiOTA 2009 Fall Conference Presentation Abstracts

Presentation # 18

Title:

The User Friendly Computer: How to Accommodate your Clients using the Microsoft Windows Operating System

Presenter(s):

Claudette Stork Reid, OT

Description of the Presentation:

The ability to use a computer is no longer optional for many in our society; students and teachers rely on computers for researching and generating a multitude of different documents, workers utilize computers for tracking, analyzing and documenting all types of data, and seniors use face book to communicate with grandchildren across the street or across the country.

Unfortunately, many of our clients are limited in their ability to access computers because of physical, sensory, learning or cognitive limitations.  This workshop will introduce the occupational therapist to a wide range of accommodations built in to the Microsoft Windows operating system and other standard programs in order to allow greater options for access by all computer users, regardless of their characteristics. And the very best part is, it’s already built in to their computers!
