Michigan Assistive Technology and TeleWork Loan Fund
 Presenter(s):

Michele Seybert, MI Assistive Tech and Loan Funds Coordinator

 Description of the Presentation:
The Michigan Assistive Technology and TeleWork Loan Funds provide low-interest loans to people with disabilities to purchase items which will help maintain or improve their independence or quality of life.  They are available to Michigan residents with disabilities and their family members.  The program is administered by United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan and is made possible through a special federal grant.

The Assistive Technology Loan Fund allows people with disabilities to apply for low-interest loans to buy assistive technology.  AT examples include, but are not limited to, hearing aids, computers, communication devices, visual aids, wheelchairs, power scooters, modified vehicles, and accessible home modifications.  There is no minimum and the maximum amount that may be borrowed is $30,000.

The Telework Loan Fund’s purpose is to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities.  It allows people to apply for low-interest loans to purchase equipment to work from home.  The loans may be used to start a home-based business or to work from home for an employer.  Equipment examples include, but are not limited to, tools, office machines, office furniture, kitchen appliances, farm equipment, home modifications, telecommunication devices, and vehicles used for the business.  There is no minimum and the maximum amount that may be borrowed is $30,000.
