MiOTA 2009 Fall Conference Presentation Abstracts
Presentation # 25

Title:

Substance Abuse in SubAcute Rehabilitation
 Presenter(s):

Karla Noppert, MHS, OTR; Charlene Rose, COTA

Description of the Presentation:

Substance abuse continues to be a prominent diagnosis under treated in the sub acute rehabilitation setting.  The purpose of this presentation is to educate and assist the therapist with identifying environmental triggers, understanding the role of occupational routines and the importance of one's value system as related to substance abuse.  Once these components are recognized, intervention strategies will be implemented with the use of the COPM, substance use questionnaires and occupational routine inventory.  To develop successful life routine changes after discharge from the sub acute rehabilitation setting will require the therapist to integrate environmental triggers, occupational routines and value systems for sustained changes in occupational behaviors.
