Title:

Evidence for the Effectiveness of Home Modifications and Fall Prevention Programs in Reducing the Number of Falls in Community Dwelling Older Adults

Description of the Presentation:

Purpose: To encourage evidence-based practice by disseminating the results of current research regarding home modification and fall prevention programs and their effectiveness in reducing the number of falls in community dwelling older adults.

Content: This presentation will provide an overview of the process involved in conducting a systematic review of evidence as well as report the findings of this project. Presenters will describe the overall results of the study, programs that demonstrated the greatest effectiveness, implications for practice, and recommendations for further research.

Relevance: By utilizing the most effective programs, occupational therapists will be able to reduce the number of falls in community-dwelling older adults, thereby decreasing injury and loss of independence, mobility, and participation.
