MiOTA 2009 Fall Conference Presentation Abstracts
  Presentation # 44

  Title:

The Form Should Match the Function:
Choosing the Best Assessment Tools for Your Home Modification Evaluation

  Presenter(s): Carla Chase,EdD,OTR
  Description of the Presentation:

Occupational therapy practitioners from a variety of settings complete home evaluations in order to make recommendations such as environmental modifications, new techniques, assistive technology and/or adaptive equipment that will support their client’s safety and independence.  These evaluations include analysis of the environmental barriers as well as thorough assessments of client factors, performance skills, performance patterns and activity demands.  Utilizing the appropriate tools for this process is key to completing the task and getting results that will best meet the needs of the client and their families, the contractors completing the remodeling job and the funders of the project while, at the same time, striving to meet our profession’s continuing goal of evidence-based practice.
