Title:

Role of OT in Urinary Incontinence
 Presenter(s):

 Description of the Presentation:
 This session will provide occupational therapy practitioners with an overview of the physiology and anatomy as related to urinary incontinence.  Participants will be provided with a didactic training on a variety of treatment approaches including therapeutic exercise, inhibition techniques as well as the application of physical agent modalities.  Tools for obtaining baseline data to initiate treatment as well as an overview of documentation requirements will be reviewed.  Many patients suffer needlessly with this life debilitating condition that is not a normal part of aging this training will provide occupational therapy participants will learn how to ask the “right” probing question to their patients to assist in identifying the correct treatment approach based on the incontinence diagnosis.  It is imperative that occupational therapy clinicians consider incontinence as part of their comprehensive assessment and treatment plan to improve quality of life and reduce incidence of injury due to high risk for falls or inactivity.
