Presentation # 9

Title:

Are You Measuring Up? Incorporating OT Tests and Measures into a Dynamic Practice

Presenter(s):

Cathleen Johnson, MS, OTR; Karla Noppert, OTR

Description of the Presentation:

Occupational Therapy practice should include standardized tests and measures that are relevant to the clients served within a given practice.  This didactic and experiential session will review and demonstrate the use of standardized tests and measures as well as how to incorporate the information into relevant treatment planning and goal identification. There are many barriers to the incorporation of standardized tests and measurements within OT practice including availability of funds and lack of knowledge and understanding of how to incorporate into meaningful OT sessions.  This hands-on session will provide a thorough overview and opportunity to “practice” the use of multiple tests and measures appropriate for clients with physical and cognitive impairments.  Through case studies participants will learn how to extract objective data and write relevant goals for treatment planning.  Lastly, this workshop will assist participants in being able to think “creatively” to identify numerous treatment ideas that would address a variety of problems frequently identified in a comprehensive evaluation, e.g. cognitive deficits, visual perceptual impairments, fine motor, strength and balance limitations.
